An earthquake Feb. 22 registering 4.3 on the Richter scale and centered off the coast of Baja California was felt as far north as Encinitas.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the quake struck at 8:40 p.m. about 39 miles off the coast of Rosarito at a depth of about 20 miles. People reported feeling the temblor as far north as Encinitas and Escondido. There were no reports of damage.
