Authorities investigate San Marcos High School bomb threat

San Marcos High School was evacuated Tuesday afternoon after a bomb threat, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Authorities closed San Marcos Boulevard between Rancho Santa Fe Road and Discovery Street to allow for investigation and evacuation, according to Sheriff’s Department updates. Students were being transported to San Marcos Middle School for pickup by parents and guardians.

The report of a pipe bomb on campus came in at about 1 p.m. Tuesday, authorities stated. Deputies, sheriff’s K-9 units and authorities from other agencies were called in to investigate. No pipe bomb was found, and the campus and nearby roads were reopened by 6 p.m.

The Sheriff’s Department is continuing its investigation into the threat, according to a Tuesday evening update.
