Woman struck, killed in apparent hit-and-run in Oceanside

OsideNewsInvestigators are seeking information in the hit-and-run death of a woman in Oceanside on Sunday, June 5.

The unidentified woman was hit and killed by someone driving a black Honda SUV on Benet Road near the intersection of Leepish Drive at about 8:15 a.m., according to an Oceanside Police Department report. Officers found the woman unresponsive on the south sidewalk of Benet Road. She died at the scene.

Evidence and witness statements indicate that the woman was walking eastbound on the south sidewalk when the black Honda SUV, also traveling eastbound on Benet Road, drove onto the sidewalk and hit her, police reported. The driver made a U-turn and fled the scene westbound on Benet Road.

Authorities do not know whether intoxication or speed were factors in the incident, according to the report.
