OsideNewsOceanside Unified School District student-athletes got to shop with city police officers Tuesday, Nov. 22, as part of a joint effort between the Oceanside Police Department and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Students were nominated by their respective schools to share breakfast, games, and a morning of shopping from 8 to 10 a.m. with officers at the Dick’s Sporting Goods location in Oceanside, the Police Department shared in a news release.

“We want to show our teens that we recognize their effort, the good choices they are making, and we support them,” Oceanside Lt. Michael Kos said in the announcement.

The Oceanside Police Department’s Random Acts of Kindness Project donated $150 to each student for shopping. Dick’s Sporting Goods also donated $150 gift cards to each student to spend on anything in the store.

The students nominated to participate were chosen by school administrators based on their dedication to school work, good citizenship and athletics, according to Oceanside Police Department’s news release.
