Elderly cyclist seriously injured in San Marcos Boulevard crash

A 79-year-old bicyclist was struck and seriously injured in San Marcos on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the intersection of San Marcos Boulevard and Via Vera Cruz, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reported.

The incident occurred at about 9:15 a.m. when the man was hit by a vehicle driven by a 23-year-old man, according to authorities. The bicyclist suffered severe head and leg injuries. The driver was not injured. San Marcos paramedics transported the victim to Palomar Medical Center, where he is being treated for potentially life-threatening injuries.

Drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the incident, the Sheriff’s Department stated.
