In a local election season generally marked by contentious arguments and some close votes, Solana Beach saw resounding victories for City Council candidates in races without competition Nov. 3, including the city’s first elected mayor.

Candidates for all three seats up for election won 100% of their votes, according to preliminary results as of 12:30 p.m. Wednesday from the San Diego County Registrar of Voters.

Former City Council member Lesa Heebner ran for mayor, and incumbents David Zito and Jewel Edson, current mayor, ran for council District 1 and District 3 respectively.

This year marks the first time that Solana Beach has elected its mayor. Before 2020, the position rotated among members of the City Council since the city’s founding in 1986.
