Veterans play an important role in U.S. history. Over time, the demographics of veterans have changed, but few realize the growing role of women in the armed forces. Today, women comprise 11% of the veteran population. According to the Pew Research Center, that number is expected to increase to 18% by 2048.
With a month as damp as February, it might be easy to forget that our region’s farmers markets are active at this time of year. This month’s Spotlight includes a rundown of our community farmers markets, which are open with winter hours. February marks Black History Month as well, and institutions offer a variety of programs highlighting the contributions of local and national figures to our communities, nation, and world.
