California's attorney general issued an ultimatum Thursday, March 24, to the city of Encinitas: Build the Encinitas Boulevard Apartments in Olivenhain or be “held accountable.”
A contentious apartment development in Olivenhain known as the Goodson Project was shot down by the Encinitas Planning Commission in August, but it could face a different outcome from the City Council this week after the decision prompted two appeals.
The next housing cycle begins in 2021, and state law requires Encinitas to pass another housing policy. The Encinitas Boulevard Apartments, a new development proposed in Olivenhain, has sparked controversy among residents.
