ENCINITAS: Check out Human Library on June 7

ENCINITAS — The Encinitas Library offers visitors the opportunity to check out “living books” from 3 to 5 p.m. June 7 as part of a Pride Celebration and Human Library. Living books are performers who represent different groups of people — such as undocumented youths, Native Americans, transgender and internment camp survivors — that library visitors can check out for 15-minute conversations, according to a library announcement. The Human Library concept was developed as a way to build dialog among diverse communities. A “Beyond the Stereotype” exhibit from CSU San Marcos will also be available for viewing during the event, featuring CSUSM students tearing photos of various racial and ethnic costume stereotypes with the text, “There is more to me than what you see. Beyond the stereotype, there is history.” Address: 540 Cornish Drive in Encinitas. More information: 760-753-7376.
