Of all the issues that have arisen recently in the San Dieguito Union High School District, it’s fair to say the grading policy was one of considerable importance to the community. On this issue, the public was denied its right to address the board in a fair and transparent manner.

The sun will not set on the longtime name of an Encinitas alternative high school after a vote by district trustees Thursday, Feb. 27. There will be some updates, however, according to San Dieguito district officials.

For decades, students have been helped along their life paths thanks to Sunset High School, a continuation campus in the San Dieguito Union High School District. Teens at the Encinitas school didn’t necessarily expect any fluff treatment, nor did educators expect to give it. Fluff treatment is what the school is getting, however, with its administration’s call for a new name.

Encinitas Mayor Catherine Blakespear appears to hold a sound victory as Jody Hubbard and Joe Mosca are headed for the City Council, according to San Diego County Registrar of Voters results as of midday Nov. 7. Measure U is headed for defeat. Tasha Boerner Horvath retains her lead for the 76th District Assembly seat over Elizabeth Warren. Incumbents lead school board races.

Incumbent Maureen "Mo" Muir led Tuesday’s vote for her seat on the San Dieguito Union High School District board in a new by-region voting system, according to county election results. Encinitas Union School District incumbents are also ahead.
