Lake Drive in Encinitas has reopened after months of work to repair a large sinkhole that developed during heavy rains in March, the city announced Wednesday, July 12.
Much of Southern California has received record amounts of rain throughout 2023 thus far, and cities throughout North San Diego County, including Oceanside, Carlsbad and Encinitas, are attempting to reckon with the damage, one dollar at a time.
A sinkhole that developed on Lake Drive in the Encinitas community of Cardiff grew overnight after more than an inch of rain fell between March 10 and 11, the city reported.
