Mysterious boom felt throughout San Diego County

Residents from Encinitas east to Escondido and south to La Mesa, Santee and elsewhere in San Diego County reported rattled nerves and shaken buildings after hearing at least one loud boom at about 1:25 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21.

The U.S. Geological Survey website has reported an earthquake near Ridgecrest, California, with a preliminary magnitude of 7.1 on the Richter scale, at about 8:20 p.m. Friday, July 5. Residents of Encinitas and elsewhere in North San Diego County have reported feeling the quake.
