Carlsbad placed a few spaces ahead of Encinitas in a recent survey naming the Best Beach Towns to Live In, but both cities can claim they made the top 10, based on WalletHub report released June 18.

Mary Scott passed away June 4, 2019, in the presence of her family at her home in Oceanside. She was 98 years old. For a short time during World War II, she worked for North American Aviation in the assembly of the P-51 Mustang fighter plane.

The renamed Shiley CSU Institute for Palliative Care became official this month in recognition of Shiley’s $2.6 million gift.
